L' Universo

(The Universe)

A brief rock novel by Dario Bosco, Samuele Caputo, Gianni Valenti
Story-line by Dario Bosco

Part One: Introducing the Characters

1. "Preludio"

London. It's an ordinary night. Not so far away one from the other, in Battersea Park, there are two wandering guys, Sam e Dave, that are thinking about the meaning of their life.

2. "L'Universo (the Universe)"

Sam is a doctor, he lives in Pimlico and he is going home after a visit; Dave is an architect, he lives in Wandsworth and is going home after a day working on the refurbishment of Mrs Susan's flat. They were both musicians, many years earlier, in local bands. Walking around, Sam and Dave cross each other, their eyes meet for a moment but they don't stop, ignoring themselves because they don't know.

3. "I'm Wrong"

Both are living the end of two love stories, but only the first of those was really requited. Sam, who has left his girl by an ungovernable desire of freedom in spite of his real love..

4. "Pagliaccio Invadente (Pushy Barker)"

..and Dave, forsaken by Rosemary for a bad-reputation-tv-star.

5. "Bluesong"

Moreover Dave has met a female friend of the couple that reveals to him that Rosemary is living a bad period due to her consciousness that no-one will love her like Dave did.

6. "Last Days of Love"

Dave remembers all the little fights, all the misunderstandings, his unsuccessful attempts to persuade her about his feelings.

7. "Lessons of My Father"

Sam, who is now walking back home in Pimlico, meets an old friend, a guitar player, John. Some years before Sam was very impressed by him, and so immediately he remembered what a friend they had in common thought: when he was fifteen, John was considered a talent, but in him an unusual sense of duty had always crushed anything else (he was the worthy fellow of a regarded stock of lawyers in town) that sooner or later his passion for music would be probably blown away. When Sam asks John what he was doing, John answers that he is a lawyer, married, in the evening he uses to go to play in a friend's house or to a cinema for an ordinary movie, on sundays he brings some sweets to the parents-in-law, that he is happy and haven't been playing music for ten years. Sam , troubled for those statements, reproaches John to have wasted his real freedom that he shows playing and invites him to play one more time. Sam was doubtful if his memory was amplified by time or if he was in front of a classic wasted talent ....

Part Two: The Universe seems to work for them

8. "Hovering My Head"

Sam is confused: he thinks about the guy met in the park, he argues about the John's way of living, so far from his', he worries about his back door girl who always tried to catch him but his mind is now on Lucy, on the moments spent with her, with love but without serious intentions.

9. "Mirror of the Past"

The following day Dave was wandering and thinking about a long trip he and himself, looking for new sweet emotions. His attention was suddenly captured by some little lights that were lighting high and bare trees: Two merry-go-rounds were standing while on a third a little train was moving producing the intermittent metallic noise. Just one little child was sitting on the train. He was sitting on one of the small wagons. When his ride was over, the child asked for another ride, this time on the first wagon behind the locomotive. His loving smile was enough to relive the sad face of the father and the sadder face of the female cashier of the merry-go-round. But when the father and his son were far , the last train stopped: cold, dead merry-go lights, high and bare trees, no people but the cashier and Dave increased the sense of loneliness inside him. Dave walked to the pub he used to attend next to his flat in Wandsworth and was hit by a wonderful girl who was leading a boring talk show on T.V. : she had deep and dark eyes and an indescribable charm. Dave's mind left for a fantastic voyage: he would met her, he would seduce her, he would.... He persuaded himself that the T.V. woman was unhappy waiting for the right man. But Dave was't inclined for this kind of approach: he was peaceful, and confided more in his skill of "sleepy strategist" in the step by step way to conquer and seduce, that in a immediate charm he didn't have. In addition, the work of T.V. star remembered to him Rosemary and her repulsive "a-sort-of-boyfriend".

10. "A Draft"

While Sam is working in the rear garden, the back door girl tries to catch him, but it is another failure for her.

Everything happened during an early summer night

11. "Open Your Mind"

Sam was invited to the house-warming party of his female friend, Susan, who is compiling the guests list. She knew John too, he was her solicitor in the purchase of the flat. Susan was a friend of the girl on T.V. and wanted to thank Dave because of his help in making her new flat ready for that night. Sam received a telephone call from Lucy, he was glad for that act, and decided to go with her to the party. Dave, that night, was surprised twice: he met the girl and succeeded in seducing her like never he did and knew Sam, really in love with Lucy this time , and John who had consented to take part to the party notwithstanding the grandma' of his wife had lost her cat . They played something classic living a marvellous moment, and decided to write songs as a band. Dave and Annie went home together after the party and had an hot night of love, John recovered his old skill, and Sam began with Lucy once again.

12. "Lo Spirito Errante (Wandering Spirit)"

A Wandering Spirit seemed to have upset for a while their lives . But it won't last.

13. Desert Lies

14. "I'm Sure Maybe"

Sam was unfaithful and betrayed Lucy after few days with his backdoor girl,

15. "Run to Her"

17. "Chiara"

When he was back, he knew a daughter was coming so he wrote a song for the newborn.

18. "Something Happened To Us"

Something happened to that three, but, maybe, not enough. But in the end, an ordinary life is always full of special features..
